A Work Doodle

I did this on a piece of stolen paper with a ballpoint pen a year or two back, during a lunch break, while I was sitting in my car out in the parking lot.

It seems a bit contrary, having just spoken about working all in pencil, to mention suddenly now the usefulness of working directly in ink.  But they are two very different kinds of drawing.  Pencils forgive, but ink never forgets. It teaches you a new way to render, new rules to building an image.

It also teaches you how to fudge mistakes a little, or at least how little most people notice the mistakes that haunt you every time you look at it.

For It's Own Sake.

This was done for it's own sake, just having fun making up some kind of fairy critter.

I always imagined they'd be festooned in trophies scored from the Bigguns, a little like nimble, amoral toddlers with butcher knives.  Nothing but giggling and stabbing, which would have made a much more interesting exercise.

Looking For A Hero's Sunset

Welcome to my sketchblog, a repository of doodles, in progress work, and other random unfinished or unplanned drawings, my online 'junk drawer'.
No, just because I'm calling it a junk drawer doesn't mean it's full of junk.

So, a study sketch I did, trying to capture the motion of the moment.

Last thought: some things about the pencils of a drawing don't survive into the inking.  I've often wondered when or if someone's done a comic entirely in pencils.  It would have a unique quality to it, if it was done.
